FUN AFTER THE FROST

Now that frost has put the kabosh on many things growing in the garden, it's time to have a little fun. Clean out the dead and damaged plants and rake the soil smooth. Draw simple designs or words in the soil using the end of your hoe handle. These lines are ideal little furrows for planting winter wheat seeds. You can buy seed on-line or at your garden center.  Be generous in your planting so your designs and words are well-defined.
Cover the furrows with surrounding soil and tamp the entire area flat with your hoe. Gently water the area and keep it moist. In about four to five days the design or words will emerge in fresh green sprouts.
It's quick and easy and just in time for...

Halloween...
or Christmas.
