New Guest Artist: BEMBY YOCUM

Bemby Yocum is joining us at From the Summer's Garden and we could not be more delighted. that is exactly what you will be when you discover her work. Beauty, whimsy and faith are a few words that drive Bemby's creativity. Bemby seeks inspiration from the world around her, the way a branch crosses the sky, the way the fields roll into the clouds and from each of the creatures they shelter. Over-arching all of these is her fierce fascination with and love of color.

When asked
what she hopes to communicate to you through her pieces she said,
“I’d like to think that as they pass the piece in their home it will bring refreshment – some joy and some comfort for the rough patches they may be facing in life. I’ve been through some big valleys of loss in my life and draw strength from the knowledge that ‘God’s got this’. ”

At From the Summer's Garden we value the creative contribution of our high school studio assistants. It is truly amazing what these kids can do and what we learn them. This is certainly the case with Joe Andriani. This multiply-has talented guy has worked for us for four years and will be graduating this spring. He's headed for the Minneapolis College of Art and Design with plans to focus on Comic Art. We decided on a lo-tech concept for our sale video this spring featuring the comic art of rising star, Joe Andriani!

Artist: NATALIE THOMAS

With the warming sun comes spring growth and the earth laughs in flowers. Pottery artist Natalie Thomas has created unique ways to capture that beauty and bring the garden into your home. For smaller flowers and buds she has wheel thrown mini-vases.  Clustered together, these vases make a stunning floral display.
Natalie has found a perfect way to reuse canning jars by creating a hand built, textured jar flower frogs.  This is a fun, easy way to hold your flowers in place when creating a floral arrangement.
Natalie’s HERE COMES THE SUN wheel-thrown garden bells will grace the air with soft pleasing sounds as you work outside in your garden.

Entertaining in the garden is a joy during the summer and Natalie’s garden inspired platter and bowl combo will be the perfect background for your culinary delights. The platter is hand built with carved veining and the bowl is wheel thrown, cut and altered to resemble a flower.

Natalie has great idea’s and the skill to make them into reality.  She is owner of the Potter’s Obsession on South Kansas City where she will be happy to teach you how to work with clay focusing on wheel throwing.  More info: www.pottersobsession.com
